BIOLOGICAL CYCLE

Consumables in a circular economy are made from biological nutrients that are non-toxic and possibly even beneficial to the biosphere whence they are returned after being consumed.

BAST FIBRES

FLAX FIBRE

Flax is one of the oldest textile fibres, Flax fabric is linen,

RAMIE

The fibres are whiter and softer than flax. Ramie is strong for a natural fibre, but it lacks resiliency, elasticity, and elongation potential. It is resistant to mildew, insects, and shrinkage.

Ramie requires chemical processing to de-gum the fibre.

Ramie was a once loved fibre by the USA, due to low duty rates. Many brands used a 55% Ramie 45% cotton blend.

HEMP

Hemp has a low environmental impact; it does not require pesticides. It produces 250% more fibre than cotton and 600% more fibre than flax on the same amount of land

JUTE

Jute is one of the cheapest textile fibres, and one of the weakest cellulosic fibres. Jute has poor elasticity, elongation, sunlight resistance, mildew resistance, and colourfastness. It is used to produce sugar and coffee bagging, carpet backing, rope, and wall coverings. Burlap is made from jute.

CANOPY STYLE AUDITS

The CanopyStyle Audits of man-made cellulosic fibers are based on a robust set of criteria designed to establish a credible, third party verification process to be undertaken by viscose producers. The audits are to be used by apparel brands, retailers, and designers as one of the reference points as they implement their CanopyStyle sourcing policies

CRAbyon

C

The CRABYON fiber is developed with a blend of Chitosan and viscose. Chitosan is a product derived from Chitin, a compound of natural origin obtained from the shell of crab and shell of fish. Chitin is an absolutely “safe” material, with a scientifically proved biocompatibility. It is used in the medical, health and pharmacological fields too.

CRADLE TO CRADLE

The Cradle-to-Cradle concept and certification process, developed by William McDonough and Michael Braungart, is a design philosophy that considers all materials, both technical and biological, to be nutrients for the system. It focuses on the design of effective products with a positive impact. For more see:

THE BEST FITTING T-SHIRTS ON THE PLANET

It's time to reboot our relationship with clothes.

99.9% of fashion brands default to mass production, which means 7.6 billion humans of different shapes are forced into a handful of standard sizes. But these so-called 'standards' fail 4 in 5 people (81% to be exact).

Tailoring is the answer, and it was pretty normal even as recently as grandma's generation.

Citizen Wolf is built on a simple idea - the clothes you wear every day can and should be custom made just for you.

MESTIC MANURE-DERIVED BIOPLASTIC

“Mestic® is all about transforming raw matter into future opportunities

A project that looks at overriding our natural aversion to waste, manure matters

In nature nothing is considered waste. Yet manure, in its essence, is easily considered the vilest substance we know. ‘Mestic’ shows that even this most disgusting matter is inherently beautiful.

Mestic® generates new sustainable raw materials (bioplastics) that can be used by the manufacturing industry, thereby spurring the settlement of new industry and the development of new innovative technologies in the future.

DETOX REPORT

Who’s on the path to toxic-free fashion?

Global fast fashion brands are churning out more clothes than the planet can handle. Today’s trends are tomorrow’s trash, with our clothes made cheaply and disposed of quickly. It’s time to redress the balance, challenge the throwaway mentality and invest in quality over quantity.
