The world of certifications and standards for fashion and textiles is complex and challenging to understand! To help businesses navigate this, Mindful Fashion has partnered with @rawassembly and created an information series to provide guidance and knowledge, and brings together global experts to cut through the chaos. The sessions are open to all members of the NZ and Australian industry and anyone else from around the world wanting to learn more.

Session #1 - Natural Fibres and Materials - There is increasing demand for certified products and materials. Consumers want higher standards from the products they buy, and manufacturers want to make sure they can verify sustainability practices in their supply chain. Learn how businesses in the fashion and textile industry can use standards and certifications to ensure traceability, cultivation and processing standards, and what is required to communicate these schemes with customers. 

Schemes covered will include Organic Content Standard (OCS), Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) and Content Claim Standard (CCS).  Hear from leaders at ControlUnionAustralia, GlobalStandard and Afends.

Session 1 - GOTS

Textile Exchange oversees a portfolio of standards including for animal, recycled and organic fibres. Learn how businesses in the fashion and textile industry can use standards and certifications to ensure content claims, traceability and processing requirements, and what is required to communicate these schemes with customers.

Schemes covered will include Responsible Wool Standard (RWS), Recycled Claim Standard (RCS), Global Recycled Standard (GRS), Organic Content Standard (OCS) and Content Claim Standard (CCS).

Session 2 - TEXTILE EXCHANGE

Session 3 - Oeko-Tex

Chemicals are involved in every step of the fashion supply chain. OEKO-TEX provides a range of standards that address chemical use, enabling consumers and companies to make responsible decisions about the products they buy. There is a focus on product safety, improving sustainable production and ensuring a sustainable, transparent value chain. Learn how businesses in the fashion and textile industry can use Oeko-Tex standards to ensure chemical safety and limit the use of harmful substances, and communicate these practices along the supply chain, including what's required to communicate on product labelling to consumers.

Kate Barry - Testex
Kate Barry is the General Manager of the TESTEX Australian / NZ branch office with over 20 years’ experience in the textile industry including raw material buying & processing, apparel sourcing & manufacturing & currently testing & certification of textiles / clothing / leather.

She joined TESTEX in 2010 & has been providing service & support to the Australian & New Zealand textile, retail & manufacturing industries in helping to meet global industry standards with the OEKO-TEX® product portfolio. She works closely with the major manufacturing markets in Asia & in Australia & New Zealand on consumer & industrial levels implementing the OEKO-TEX® system.

TESTEX is a globally operating, independent Swiss testing and certification organisation with focus on textile and leather testing. Founded in 1846 the TESTEX Group now operates more than 25 branches with more than 250 employees worldwide from its head office in Zurich. TESTEX is a member institute of the OEKO-TEX® Association and the official representative in Australia, Canada, the P.R. Session 3 - Oeko-Tex Standards

11th November. 2021 - 1pm NZDT / 10am AEST / 11am AEDT

The session will focus on traceability, best practice in the supply chain and importance of full life cycle impact data to access sustainability and circularity of fibres and of course high quality products.
